The production of the new Audi A1 is officially underway. The new compact sports model will be exclusively manufactured at the SEAT plant, and Geprom has played a key role in the production process by integrating monitoring, control, and production management systems, as well as handling projects related to maintenance, logistics, and industrial process supervision.
This model joins the Audi Q3, which began production at the Martorell plant in 2011, with over 800,000 units produced since then. The Audi A1 will help maintain the high production volume at these facilities, which are the highest automobile-producing factory in Spain.
In the realm of digitalization, Geprom has implemented monitoring, control, and production management for the Audi A1. This was achieved by integrating the MES Legato platform into the various production workshops where the new model is manufactured. Legato plans, controls, and monitors all production process information in real time (inventory, order planning, breakdowns, production management, traceability, energy management, efficiencies, and performance). The captured data is processed and stored in real time, then converted into customized reports for analysis and decision-making.
In the industrial automation domain, Geprom has developed turnkey projects that include electrical engineering, industrial programming, communication networks, electrical installations, and the commissioning of material handling systems, conveyors, and communication networks for the Audi model.
Christian Vollmer, SEAT’s Vice President of Production and Logistics, emphasized that “having the Audi A1 production assigned to Martorell is a recognition of the excellent work carried out by the SEAT Martorell team in producing the Audi Q3 over the past years.” Vollmer added that this assignment represents Audi’s commitment to the Martorell plant as a strategic production site within the global Volkswagen group network.

Audi executive Peter Kössler highlighted the qualification of Martorell’s workers and the experience the factory has gained in adapting to Audi’s production and quality system.
In 2018, more than 500 workers with permanent contracts were hired. The reinforcement of the workforce responds to the increase in production and new models at the Martorell plant, as well as strategic projects related to automotive connectivity and the company’s digitalization, in which Geprom plays an important role.
