Advanced Factories 2023: Record Attendance Consolidates the Event as an Industry Benchmark
A week ago, the seventh edition of Advanced Factories 2023 kicked off. The three-day event was intense but highly motivating, thanks to the response from the industrial sector. Advanced Factories, recognized as the leading industrial event, broke its attendance record this year, with a 67% increase in registrations compared to the previous edition. Nearly 35,000 professionals attended Fira Barcelona – Gran Vía to discover the latest solutions in industrial automation, robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and cutting-edge machine tools to enhance productivity and efficiency in their factories.
Other notable figures include: Advanced Factories, held simultaneously with AMT – Advanced Machine Tools, brought together 537 exhibitor companies and 382 experts, generating an economic impact of 74 million euros for the city of Barcelona.
The event highlighted the need to relocalize industry as a driver of economic prosperity.
“After decades of offshoring manufacturing, industrial autonomy is finally being discussed again. Globalization—the idea of a single international production system driven by global finance, interconnected digital networks, and large corporations seeking low labor costs—has faded. We now understand the importance of reindustrialization: manufacturing generates knowledge, creates highly skilled jobs, and attracts major R&D investments,”
— Albert Planas, General Director, Advanced Factories.
At Geprom | Part of Telefónica Tech, together with Telefónica Tech, we showcased technological capabilities in IoT, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence and their applications in the industrial sector.
Our demonstrations included:
Lego Factory 4.0 (Continuous Process): A representation of a continuous manufacturing plant using LEGO, where all process parameters are monitored in real time with our IoT/MOM platform, Legato.

Fab Lab 4.0 (Discrete Process): A discrete manufacturing plant simulation where attendees assume the role of an operator and follow all steps to assemble an item. All key manufacturing metrics are collected in our MES/SGA system, Objective.
We also participated in the Congress with the presentation:

“Integral Digitalization of Production Processes Using Artificial Intelligence with the MOM System – Turbot Challenge”
Presented by Darío Cesena (CEO, Geprom) and Jorge Juan Alfonso (Food Operations Manager – Stolt Sea Farm).
“We are proud to have developed a pioneering analytics plan for Stolt Sea Farm that will help optimize their business margins. Technologies like Big Data and Artificial Intelligence allow the industrial sector to base decisions on analyzed data, transforming business models to make them more efficient and competitive,”
— Darío Cesena, CEO, Geprom | Part of Telefónica Tech.
